What do you think? Does she know where these 2 roads would take her? One appears to be fair weather, while the other is stormy. But her body language seems to say she doesn't know which way to go . . .?
Todays 5 verses involve choices too:
Now as Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon who was called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. And He said to them,
"Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men."
Immediately they left their nets and followed Him.
Going on from there He saw two other brothers, "James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets and He called them.
Immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him. Matthew 4:18-22 NASB.
This was a call to service and work. Jesus wanted them to use their inward skills to "catch" men for His Kingdom. He could take a teacher and say "Teach for Me." He could take a lonely housewife or a teen-age run-a-way and say . . I will use your hidden skills for a higher purpose . . Follow Me!
What are YOU doing that could be transferred over or has already been transferred over into work and service for the Kingdom of God?
How wonderful is their answer! Immediately. KJ states straightway G2112 = directly / at once / forthwith.
Many . . or could I say most . . Christians are not called to leave their daily calling or job they find themselves in. But if you sense He has called you, drop whatever is in your hands and go. The call is His part . . to immediately follow is our part. This would be your sign:
When Jesus calls you, you may not see very far ahead . . just stay close to Him. He knows the end from the beginning and will lead you.
A baby Christian may get these mixed up and do the right thing for the wrong reason or vice versa. That's why we need our Bibles and each other and fellowship. But an unbeliever - a non Christian may not care if something is right or wrong - he or she just wants what they want when they want it. Beware!
Last sign for today's message. An unbeliever is blown around by the wind (James 1:6.) He or she lives by emotions and seldom considers consequences. An opposite example is Abraham (see Romans 4:20.)
Finally, there is the possibility of no sign at all. What then?
Thankfully, we have scripture.
2 Corinthians 3:18 NIV. And we, who with unveiled faces all REFLECT the Lord's glory, are being transformed into His likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
In other words, just keep calm and carry on, knowing that you are doing what He wants you to do.
