5 ACTION STEPS THAT WILL HELP YOU STOP WORRYING

Scripture: Matthew 8:28-34 NIV Power over Demons

When He (Jesus) arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met Him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way.

"What do you want with us, Son of God?" they shouted. "Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?" Some distance from them a large herd of pigs was feeding. The demons begged Jesus, "If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs." He said to them, "Go!"


So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd (Mark's gospel states "about 2,000") rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water. Those tending the pigs ran off, went into the town and reported all this, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men. Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus. And when they saw Him, they pleaded with Him to leave their region. (Mark's gospel states the people were afraid when they saw the man sitting there, dressed and in his right mind. In Luke's gospel, the same man begged to go with Jesus, but He told him, "Go home to your family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you and how He has had mercy on you.")


I would think those people were never the same. Right now in the U. S. there are many things to be afraid of if you watch or listen to the news. I don't need to name them, do I?


But I do want to name some action steps to decrease worry and anxiety.

I have used all of them. They work.


1. Repeat a verse out loud about fear or worry several times a day. (No, I do

not mean in front of other people.) Example: Isaiah 41:10 in the NASB


2. Ask the Lord to redirect your mind. Example: Philippians 4:8


3. Turn off the news until you calm down. Listen for the Holy Spirit.

Isaiah 30:21


4. Set a timer for 5 minutes. You MUST worry for 5 minutes straight.


5. Set a timer for 10 minutes. Do NOT worry for 10 minutes straight


The reason these 5 action steps work is because they point to what we KNOW!
